MEMORIES OF THE POINTERS/TOWNSMEN REUNION - SEPTEMBER 27, 2014
(The 50th Anniversary of the National Association Championship)
After all of the searching for members, planning, travel, and logistics (sounds like getting ready for a contest, doesn't it?), the 50th Anniversary reunion of the Pointers/Townsmen was held on Saturday, September 27, 2014. To say it was a great time would be an understatement. For many of us it was the first time we had seen some of our corps mates in almost a half century. Wow, where did the time go as they say.
The turnout was excellent considering that many of the alumni live a long way from Point Pleasant, NJ. We had members come from California, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina, Delaware, as well as throughout New Jersey. All totaled we had over thirty folks, including corps members and families.
Although five decades had passed since we marched together, time vanished and it was yesterday again. The friendship and camaraderie were as close as they had been all those years ago. We even had some, not too bad, attempts at playing some of our old songs. The drummers were spot on and the horns were not bad, considering some of us had not played in years.
In the end, we all wished it wouldn't end and started discussing doing it again, but not waiting 50 years.
